Very Important Pets
The Pacific Northwest is well known for its quirky rituals and unique cultural staples. It may well be that this common thread of oddity is what ties the PNW tapestry together. True to form, Orcas Island has its own quirk. Our Mayor is a pet. You read that correctly. Each year an election is held to select the best animal to preside over this special island for the coming year. Most importantly, it is the elected pet’s duty to raise money for the early learning non-profit Orcas Island Children’s House, which helps island families keep education affordable.
Sharing a love for our furry family members we wanted to highlight some of the sweet guests that enter our gates and share their joyful spirits with the Salish.

Thor
Thor is the master and welcoming committee of the cottages. He takes his responsibility as host very seriously and may send out a bark or two to let you know he’s happy you’ve arrived safely.
Hana
Hana is the queen of the estate. She is a bit of a recluse but has a heart of gold and will greet you with a smile when you’re out on the trails or taking a walk to check out the tide pools.

Maya
Ms. Maya shakes paws with the host after her arrival before she climbs aboard the ship inspired cottage Orca Watch.
Mike
Mr. Mike patiently waits for a treat after showing off his tricks.
Charlie
Mr. Charlie enjoys a bone on the Eagles’ Nest deck while his owners enjoy a dip in the hot tub and a spectacular panoramic view.
Ava
Ava enjoys napping and restful afternoons while soaking in the sun on Eagles Nest patio.
Birdie
Birdie the Bernie is a big fan of Ravens Hut. Maybe it’s the extra treats, maybe it’s the belly rubs, or maybe it’s the ambiance highlighted by the crane stained glass door.
